Chip Rogers is a senior business executive and general manager with broad experience leading all strategic and operating aspects of a company. He is skilled in: recruiting talent; building management teams; and setting a strategic course for growth. He is experienced in making acquisitions, as well as, positioning companies for sale. Chip’s specific expertise is in the media industry, but has in depth exposure to both the banking and health care sectors as a result of his extensive board work.
Most recently, Chip was the Chairman and Publisher of The Eagle-Tribune Publishing Company based in North Andover, Ma. The company was a $70 million privately-held publishing company operating daily and weekly newspapers in Essex County, Massachusetts, and southern New Hampshire. The company had 700 employees and was the winner of two Pulitzer Prizes. The company was acquired by Community Newspaper Holdings in October 2005.
Chip’s tenure as Chairman and Publisher was marked by major organic revenue growth, completion of four acquisitions totaling $80+ million dollars, significant increase in shareholder value, and ultimately the successful sale of the company. His accomplishments include:
- Tripling the corporate value over a three year period.
- Adapting to quickly changing technologies and market conditions.
- Negotiating the sale of the business. This was among the very highest multiples for newspaper publishing acquisitions.
- Acquiring three daily newspapers from Dow Jones in 2002. Result was a doubling of the revenue of the company and staffing.
- Recruiting and developing a new management team.
- Recruiting the company’s first outside board of directors.
- Negotiating an $80 million senior secured credit facility.
- Consolidating ownership in the long-time family owned business.
Prior to becoming Chairman and Publisher, Chip was the Chief Operating Officer and Marketing Director for the publishing company.
Chip’s board experience includes three banks, a publishing company, and a major medical center where he is currently serving as Chairman of the Board. He enjoys giving back through his board work, and having the opportunity to broaden his knowledge about other industries and business strategies.
Chip is a native of Massachusetts and resides in Andover, Ma with his wife and three sons.
